Who's My Bobby?
CHIPPING NORTON NEIGHBOURHOOD ACTION GROUP AREA
Here's the latest round-up of community news from the Neighbourhood Police Team on the whosmybobby.co.uk website:
The Chipping Norton Neighbourhood Action Group Area includes Enstone, Charlbury, The Wychwoods, The Bartons and the surrounding villages. Already improvements have been made to the area including road safety related initiatives to tackle speeding, and engagement activities with young people. 60% of residents in the area know the name of their local neighbourhood officer.
In the autumn of 2007 more than 300 people were surveyed in Chipping Norton and the surrounding villages to identify the top issues they want tackling over the next year. Residents identified the following top three priorities:
* Speeding
* Anti-social behaviour
* Parking
These issues are now being tackled by the Neighbourhood Action Group, made up of local residents and partner organisations.
What's happening in my neighbourhood?
July 2008
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Colin James brings this month’s update:
“An irate motorist who was given a parking ticket by a PCSO in the High Street in Chipping Norton, was issued a fixed penalty notice for using threatening and abusive language towards her. This £80 ticket added to the parking ticket became a very expensive outing from Oxford. The PCSO was doing her job: the motorist was completely in the wrong and could have been arrested. Abuse towards our officers will not be tolerated.
“A note to dog owners! You are responsible for your dog’s behaviour, i.e. cleaning up dog mess and keeping your dog under control. We have had several complaints in recent weeks about dogs being allowed to chase, bite and make a mess. You are responsible, you have been warned.
“Together with PC Alaina Boswell, I took part and completed the recent 5k Race for Life at Heythrop Park. Between us, we raised more tham £100 in sponsorship. As always, the event was very well supported by many, many women who were either running or walking in support of cancer research.
Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Chris Jones brings this month’s update for Enstone, Middle Barton, Sandford St Martin, Ledwell, Over Worton, Nether Worton, Great Tew, Little Tew, Swerford)
“PCSO Chris Jones has been holding his monthly surgeries at Middle Barton Stores and these are proving to be very successful. If you have a problem or simply want to chat, Chris’s next surgery will be held on Friday 25 July between 2pm and 4pm. Please come along.”
Chipping Norton update from PCSO Cheryl Roberts
“A young man from the Stonesfield area has been jailed for three counts of lead theft at St Mary’s Church, which has been covered by the local media. Other people have been arrested in connection with such thefts, and are currently on bail while enquiries continue.
“We are continuing to investigate the arson at the play area in New Street and we are still appealing for witnesses to this crime. If you have any information please contact us.
“An 18-year-old man has appeared at court charged with criminal damage to the Thai Shire window and another incident of damage. He was found guilty and received an 18-month conditional discharge and a compensation order.
“We have had reports of a man knocking on doors and offering items for sale. People selling items door-to-door require a peddler’s certificate. If you receive a visit from someone you feel is suspicious, please contact us.
“On the evening of Friday 20 June, the new railings in Back Alley were demolished by a car being driven recklessly. Although the vehicle was dumped and later recovered by the registered keeper, enquiries are continuing to trace the driver and deal with them accordingly.”
Charlbury update from PCSO Wes Smith (including Finstock, Spelsbury, Fawler)
“The Riverside Festival took place on the weekend of 21-22 June. The event ran without incident until late on Saturday evening when a group of young people began fighting and causing trouble. The police were called and attended from Chipping Norton and Witney. Eventually the groups were dispersed with one female from Witney being arrested.
“Watch out for Wes’s Charlbury Choice. This monthly newsletter will be available in the next few days and will contain useful contact information and items of interest to the community.
The Wychwoods update from PCSO Kirstyn Tyrer (including Ascot, Shipton and Milton under Wychwood, Lyneham, Chadlington, Fifield, Chilson, Sarsden, Kingham, Churchill, Salford, The Rollrights)
“Overnight on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 June, graffiti occurred at Beaconsfield village hall.
“The Wychwoods Primary School has again suffered damage to the swimming pool area. Although we may have an idea who is doing this, we need evidence. Please, if you see anything suspicious, such as people walking around late at night, let us know.
“I have been holding meet-and-greet sessions. My next date is in Churchill near to the play park on Saturday 12 July at 9.30am.
“She is also going into a number of the schools in the area to speak to the children, so if they have any questions, please encourage them to ask.”
